Even though he was born in the 20th Century he was bought by Sybelle's violent brother to look after Sybelle because he couldn't be bothered too.
After the failure of Armand's attempted suicide, Benji and Sybelle restored Armand to his full health and have been his companions ever since. Both Benji and Sybelle where given the dark gift by Marius as they both asked for it.
