Deirdre Mayfair was damned at birth not just the hair to the fortune and to Lasher but because her sole guardian Carlotta hated her and what she meant to the chain that was nearly complete. Deirdre was always meant to believe that she was evil and cursed because of if and like her mother she was also expelled from Catholic schools due to the fiend Lasher.
Twice in two occasions Deirdre tried to run away and two commit suicide and two times she failed on both accounts. She was sent away to stay with family in LA but that didn't last long as she was keeping talking about curses and her secret meetings with Lasher in the backyard and was sent back to New Orleans. When she was seventeen she enrolled into a Texas college and seemed to enjoy herself. A Talamasca member Aaron Lighter paid Deirdre a visit and asked her if she wanted to read the Mayfair file she refused and asked Aaron to take the Mayfair emerald because she didn't want anything to do with Lasher or the Talamasca she just wanted a normal life. Aaron refused as he feared Lasher would kill him and so Deirdre threw the emerald into a swamp.
Deirdre falls pregnant and the family presume that it is her Professors baby and that the Professor had left his wife and was coming to Deirdre when he died in a car accident. When in fact the real father was her uncle Cortland Mayfair. Carlotta desperate to break the chain demanded that the baby was given to the California Mayfair family and that Deirdre and the New Orleans Mayfair family have nothing to do with the child. There where arguments and it cost the life of Cortland but Carlotta got her away and when Rowan Mayfair was born Ellie Mayfair adopted her.
This sends Deirdre mad and Deirdre spends the next seventeen years institutionalized and is given daily shock treatments and a high doses of Thorazine. When she returned home in 1976 she was in a catatonic state and basically spends the rest of her days sitting in at the porch. She dies at the age of forty-eight. Rowan Mayfair is contacted by accident and Rowan returns to New Orleans to bid farewell to her mother.
