Rowan Mayfair
-The Thirteenth Witch-
As prophecy intended the thirteen witches is born to Cortland and Deirdre Mayfair her name is Rowan Mayfair. Rowan's great aunt named her Rowan which is supposedly meant to be a small tree with red berries that is associated in Britain with the Druids and it supposed to ward of witchcraft and evil.
Rowan was adopted by Ellie Mayfair and Graham Franklin and lived most of her life unaware of her true history and the Mayfair family. When Rowan was young she got into a fight another schoolmate and killed her with the power of her mind. She never got punished for it has everyone thought the little girl Mary Jane died of a natural occurrence. Rowan could read minds well and she told people things that only they could have known. This nearly got her excluded once and she stopped using that power for years. When she graduated from school she enrolled into a medical college to practice medicine and become a neurosurgeon and gains a reputation for being the best doctor in her field. In her spare time Rowan likes to take her boat the "Sweet Christine" out into the Ocean. Rowan has the ability to heal but to also killed and she had proven this fact at least several times her victims being (Mary Jane, The man who tried to rape her, a fellow student at medical school, Graham Franklin, Graham's lover, Carlotta, and Stuart Gordon). Eventually the Talamasca approaches Rowan if she wants to read the files on the Mayfair witches she declines remembering that she made a promise to Ellie that she would never speak or read into her family's past..
One day when she was out on her boat she discovered a man that had been laying face down in the water, she detected life and brought him back to the living this man turned out to be Michael Curry and that he had brought a strange gift/curse back with him that he did not possess before he nearly died. He was air lifted away and Rowan didn't think much of him other then she had fell in love with him and that she must meet him again. Michael was also eager to meet the person who saved his life and to also gain answers. He found no real answers but he did fall in love with Rowan and they spent the night with each other until Michael had to leave for New Orleans where he was confident that he would find his answers there. Unable to follow him due to her promise to her stepmother Ellie she didn't go with him and she believed that she would never see him again. After Michael left Carlotta phoned up to speak to Ellie but not knowing that Ellie had died a year before hand was forced to tell her that Deirdre, Rowan's mother had died. Unable to keep to Ellie's last wish she travels to New Orleans where she makes contact with Lasher twice, once outside her room and on the plane in her dream.
When she arrived in New Orleans and attended the funeral of Deirdre, Carlotta invites her back to First Street and tells her of the evil deeds that the family have performed over the years and the deeds she has done to end the evil in a rage Rowan kills Carlotta. Rowan speaks to Michael and Michael convinces her to read the file on her family in which she does and she also makes a friend in Aaron Lighter. After reading the file she hands the restoration of First Street to Michael and shortly after they become man and wife. Eventually Rowan falls pregnant with Michael's baby and this is when Lasher becomes involved. Maybe it was her over confidents that she could do that no other Mayfair had done before hand and control Lasher and send him away made her easy pickings for Lasher who was having secret meetings with her and on Christmas Eve 1989 brutally attacked Rowan and took the flesh of Rowan's baby and he became a full grown man. The scientist in her could not refuse the chance to study Lasher and so she runs off with him around the world and eventually he takes her prisoner to repopulate the species of Taltos. After the numerous miscarriages she finally becomes pregnant with another Taltos and manages to escape from the clutches of Lasher and to a hill where she gives birth to Emaleth and enters a coma. Emaleth unable to help her leaves her to find more milk and to reach Michael Curry to tell him about her mother Rowan.
Rowan is found and is taken to First Street where she rests in a coma state with the doctors not giving her much chance to survival. Michael returns to find that the guards and nurses are no longer around and that Lasher is standing over Rowan enrages Michael and after telling his story to the Talamasca that have spilt from the real Talamasca kills him with a hammer. Later on Emaleth shows up and gives her mother Rowan her milk that awakens her from her coma state and in blind panic kills Emaleth with a gun and buries her with Lasher near the oak tree. She then stops speaking and does not speak until Aaron Lighter is murdered and Rowan seeks revenge on the killers.
Rowan discovers that Mona is pregnant with Michael's child before Mona does and tells her that she feels no anger or resentment for Mona or her child but does tell Mona that Michael is her husband and will remain that. Mona has no intention of taking Michael away from Rowan who can no longer have children.
Michael and Rowan set off for Britain and to find the people responsible for Aaron's death. During their time in London Rowan and Michael stumble upon another Taltos who claimed to be the real Ashlar from thousands of years ago. After finding the killers and dealing with them. Michael and Rowan travel to New York where Ashlar tells his story of his life.
Rowan and Michael return to New Orleans to discover that Mona has had her child and it is another Taltos called Morrigan. Mona pleads with them both not to kill her daughter and Rowan and Michael tell Mona that they have no intention of killing her which is a relieved to Mona. Ashlar shows up and finds that they is a female Taltos in Rowan and Michael's company and both Taltos leave with the permission of Rowan and Michael to repopulate the species.
After Morrigan left Mona started to sleep with man after man until she became seriously ill and after the completion of Mayfair Medical, Rowan becomes her Doctor until Mona dies and becomes a vampire.
After discovering that Mona has left Mayfair Medical and went to Blackwood Farm she and the priest who is also a Mayfair travel to Blackwood Farm to retrieve and take her to the hospital. Rowan comes across Lestat de Lioncourt and is unable to read him although she knows of him from conversations with other parts of the family that have warned her about him. Rowan falls in love with Lestat and tells him, Mona, and Quinn about how she knew him and about all they had on the whereabouts of Morrigan, Mona's daughter. After Lestat, and the others retrieve the three remaining Taltos, Rowan takes them to Mayfair Medical where she takes under her wing Lorkyn one of the Taltos who wants to become a Doctor and Mayfair Medical while the other two (Oberon and Miravelle) decide to stay at Mayfair Medical as it would be the safest place from them. Rowan then travels back out to Blackwood Farm where she asks Lestat for the dark gift, he refuses but does tell her that he loves her and that he will one day give it to her.
