CRAIG'S REVIEW
Interview With The Vampire is fresh and exciting you will be holding your breath back to see what happens next. The film doesn't follow the book to the letter but it does give a good stab at converting what was in the book to what is on the screen.
The casting was excellent with the exception of one, but the casting department for this film should be given a lot of praise for there contribution to the film. Tom Cruise is an excellent Lestat which proves that Tom Cruise can take his talent any film. Brad Pitt was an excellent choice for the part of Louis and he played it just like the books do which is funny because Brad Pitt never read any of the Vampire Chronicles because he couldn't get though tem! Hope if Louis ever appears in future films that Brad Pitt considers taken the picture. Kirsten Dunst brings a furious talent to the child vampire Claudia and someone of her age (1994) shows that she is a very talented actress as we all know she is from films like Spider-Man, Bring It On. The only casting problem for me was Armand, don't get me wrong Antonio Banderas is a good actor just didn't think he was right for the role due to his age and the way he played Armand.
The FX in this film are amazing for it's time (1994) and it's pretty impressive when you see Brad Pitt's and Kirsten Dunst characters change into vampires.
I have to say that my favorite scene in this movie is when Lestat and Louis are entertaining working girls in their flat and Lestat tortures and kills both of them just to show Louis what he and Louis really are and I just love the lines as follows:
"Take you aesthete's taste to purer things. Kill them swiftly if you will but do it! For do not doubt you are a killer, Louis?"
This scene was amazing and Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt really came alive during this scene, this scene is just outstanding.
This film is outstanding and it is well worth the watch, Anne Rice fans will not be disappointed!
Now if I could go into the DVD version for a minute or so the feature-length commentary by the director Neil Jordan is great and insightful which makes your understanding of them film that much better. I do not usually listen to DVD commentaries that often as I find them quite boring but I do make an exception for films that I completely adore and this is one of those exceptions. The behind-the-scene look at the film as interviews with all the stars of the film and is alright to watch once maybe twice but lets the DVD package down a little. You've also got an introduction to the movie by the talented Anne Rice and the director Neil Jordan. It would have been nice to have a deleted scenes section on this DVD as we all know they where deleted scenes but unfortunately there isn't, maybe in future DVD releases they might put them on but until then we have to make do with what we got.
